Côté Mer's Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua) is fished off the coast of Iceland. It is a medium-sized sea fish, generally weighing between two and three kilograms, measuring between 65 and 100 centimeters and which can live up to 25 years. The largest cod on record weighed around 100 kg and measured over 180 cm.
The cod liver, which is very fragile, is carefully extracted from the ship and quickly transferred to the packaging plant. It is then salted and sometimes smoked according to the recipe, which you can find under our Côté Mer brand.
Cod liver is a natural source of omega-3 fatty acids, in particular eicosatetraenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Omega-3s are essential fatty acids that play a crucial role in the health of the heart, brain and nervous system. They help reduce inflammation, maintain normal heart function and promote cognitive health.
